When you think of a chiropractor, do you think of them treating the spine only? If you do, keep reading! Though, there are some chiropractors that only focus on the back and neck, or maybe specific vertebrae, there are chiropractors out there that do treat the joints in the extremities. I like to sometimes say to patients who did know, “If it’s a joint, I can treat it.” Sometimes, chiropractic adjustments can be great for that nagging knee, that bummed shoulder, or the newly sprained ankle.
In addition, sometimes those areas are hurting because another joint around it is not moving correctly. In the book Anatomy Trains by Thomas Myers, it says, “It’s the victims who cry out, not the criminals.” What is meant by this is: The area of pain is not the cause of it. The book also states, "Bodily injury at any given site can be set in motion by often long term strains in other parts of the body. The injury happens because of inherent weakness or previous injury, not purely and always because of local strain."
In my office, I look at the whole body and avoid getting tunnel vision on just the area of pain. If you have a joint that is bothering you, give me a call, I’d like to see if I can help. If I can’t help, I will at least do my best to get you in to right place to be seen!
